The cure for cellulite?

The dreaded C-word..yes, CELLULITE. I don’t know a woman that does not have some sort of degree of dimples or lumps and bumps.

There are creams, gels, oils, salon treatments, surgical procedures etc to help reduce the appearance. I have been using the [comfort zone] Body Strategist Remodeller for the last 3 years (which I LOVE). However, I have a particularly stubborn dimple which I think is too advanced to be treated with a cream.

The fact is that cellulite is generally the result of hormonal or dietary imbalance within the fat tissues, which results in more fat formation than fat breakdown. When this balance is upset, the fat cells swell and store fat. At the same time, their ability to uptake sugar is increased and the excess glucose causes a hardening of the collagen fibres which normally ensure the skin’s elasticity. Around 90% of women over the age of 20 are affected by cellulite (so we’re not alone).

There are three stages of cellulite;

Stage 1 – edematous cellulite

Skin may appear slightly swollen and soft like jelly and dimpling is only apparent when the skin is pinched together.

Stage 2 – orange peel cellulite

Fat cells increase in volume and capillaries are weakened which restricts fluid drainage and circulation. This stage is clear, you’ll be able to to see the appearance of ‘orange peel’. The deterioration of circulation also means the skin can feel cold to touch.

Stage 3 – adipose cellulite

Lymphatic fluids builds up and circulation is reduced further making the skin cold to touch, metabolism in the cells slows down. Legs can feel swollen, heavy and fatigued.

I have come across an at-home gadget called TriPollar POSE, which claims to reduce fat, tighten skin and smooth out cellulite.

The technology of this product is apparently used in salon machines and is only now available in a hand held device designed for home use.

The device comes with a special preparation gel which warms up as you massage into the area you wish to treat. This machine is so easy to use, when I saw it, I expected it to be really confusing (like the laser hair removal machines also designed for home use). I’ll go into details on how to use the machine in my next post with an update on how it is working for me.

I found this information on which describes how the device works;

” The Pose works by emitting four low power radio frequency beams which gently warm the different layers of your skin. As the fat layer warms quicker than the other layers of skin this stimulates fact cells to release fat as liquid fatty acids into your blood stream. This is then either metabolised or flushed away in the system. The result is smaller fat cells and less fat on your body.”

The machine can be used on;

  • Abdomen
  • Thighs (which is where I will be using it)
  • Waist
  • Arms
  • Butt

I did test it out once before I went on holiday and the small area I tested instantly felt smoother. However, to see visible and beneficial results, you have to use the POSE 2-3 times a week for 6-8 weeks. So, from tomorrow I will be trialling the POSE properly and I will write an update in two weeks.
