I tried to be vegan and lasted all of…..one day. I just can’t survive without chocolate, look up chocaholic and you’ll see my mugshot (while I am typing this blog, I have already been through A LOT of French chocolate, thanks Carine). Although I failed at veganism, some incredible vegan brands have scored big time with me.
First up is Aromi Matte Liquid Lipsticks, a vegan brand created by a chemist called Hannah of Scandinavian heritage. The packaging is basic, rather 80’s but the product is IN-CREDIBLE! The OCD freak in me has always felt a bit gross when eating whilst wearing lipstick because it’s only natural that you end up eating the lipstick but with these vegan lipsticks, I don’t mind at all, knowing they are made with only plant based ingredients but also, I find they hardly even budge. I can wear them all day without the need to reapply, only when my lips get a bit dry because of the AC do I need to apply some lip balm.
I have three colours; Black Cherry, Tangerine and Rich Rosewood. I definitely want to order more!
I found the full ingredients list for the matte liquid lipstick, which you can read below;
“Handmade in the U.S.A.
This vegan and cruelty-free liquid lipstick is formulated from scratch and is handmade in our own laboratory. Certified by both PETA and Leaping Bunny.
Ingredients: Isododecane, Dimethicone, Candelilla wax, Magnesium stearate, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Benzylalcohol, Dehydroacetic acid, Caprylyl glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, fragrance, [+/- Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Mica (CI 77019), Silica, Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Red 6 Lake (CI 15850), Red 7 Lake (CI 15850), Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140), Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090), Red 27 Lake (CI 45410)”
This brand scores top marks with me and I would love to try other products in the range. Love, love, love! Visit the site here or if you’re in the UK, you can order from one of my favourite websites, Cocktail Cosmetics here.
Next up is the Svelta range, a skin perfecting self-tanner made with ingredients you would find in a luxury skincare brand and an indulgent body scrub made with unrefined ingredients.
Although I live in Dubai and I love tanned skin, I still try to avoid the sun, I wear my Dr Lancer SPF 30 everyday and can count on one hand the number of times I have been to the beach. Along comes a Dubai born entrepreneur who has created a safer way to obtain that healthy golden glow we all desire using vegan ingredients.
After having some stitches in my arm, I was eagerly awaiting for my stitches to fall out so I could try the self tanner and FINALLY I got the chance to do some testing.
The packaging is very slick and looks very attractive in my bathroom, I think it was a smart move to create black packaging for a self tan, the packaging is less likely to look grubby.
Before applying the self tanner, I prepped my skin with the truly glorious Coffee & Raw Sugar Scrub, ohlala, it smells so good that I found myself delaying washing it off my skin. It comes in a huge pot, which is really good value for containing raw cane sugar, coffee and olive oil.
I wanted to test the self tanner over a few days to monitor the smell and the colour. Upon application, the golden shimmer colour guide is really good, it’s creamy and doesn’t leave streaks, the colour is so nice that I applied it in the morning and didn’t wear make up over it. I couldn’t smell the typical ‘biscuity’ self tan smell, however, it was inevitable that during the development process, I would end up smelling like a digestive biscuit, although, only mildly, but knowing that the DHA is eco-certified makes it OK for me and everybody I air kissed didn’t even notice.
It’s been a long time since I paid a self tanning range any interest and this one scores top marks from me, the application is smooth and effortless and the developed colour really is golden. J’adore!
